I think it would be fairly safe to say that Reuben and Joshua are currently mildly obsessed with two BBC CBeebies TV programmes at the moment: Balamory and In the Night Garden.
In fact, whenever they see a pad of paper and a pen they will pick up the pen and thrust it into my hand with the instruction “More Daisy!”
Upsy Daisy is a character on In the Night Garden. I’m getting quite good at drawing her, to be honest. Until I realised that Reuben and Joshua don’t really care about details. As soon as I’ve drawn Daisy’s oval head and added some Medusa-like strands of hair Joshua will steal the pen back: “No! My!” and start to scribble over what I’ve just drawn.
Jane looked at my pad the other day and laughed. “What on earth would a psychologist make of that picture?” she joked.
That’s a very crude depiction of Igglepiggle and Upsy Daisy with erm… additions by Joshua (red, blue and green) and Reuben (black).
Great to see that the BTVision box (the V-box™) is getting a software update this month. The update focuses on three main improvements:
All new recordings you set up will add 5 minutes to the end. This is great news, as the current setup often loses the last couple of minutes from the end of programmes.
On a number of occasions we’ve returned to our BTVision box to discover that for some reason it’s rebooted itself and thinks it’s doing a first-time install. The new update will “reduce this from happening”.
User interface tweak
The UI is getting a tweak, making it “a bit more clear”, we’re promised.
All that said, overall as it is I think it’s a really great system. I need to blog about it at the other place … maybe once the update has gone through (sometime between 6 – 20 October).
Here’s my prediction for 2008. This will be the next ‘big thing’ in daytime TV.
It will be a TV programme where two presenters will help a family find their dream home in the country. Meanwhile the entire family will be given complete make-overs and where necessary plastic surgery.
The team will also assist in the selling of the house from which they are moving, by suggesting interior decor tips to make the house more attractive to potential buyers. And sell the entire contents of their attic at an auction. Or car boot sale.
Once the new ‘dream home’ has been purchased a team will come in to completely gut and renovate the house and garden.
I predict that this programme will appeal most to those on witness protection schemes.
