Most productivity advice can feel complicated, but sometimes the simplest ideas are the ones that really stay with us. Years ago, when I was recovering from meningitis and struggling even to focus my eyes, I came across a reminder that still speaks to me now:
Focus on one thing, not everything.
Richard St John found this to be one of the eight traits shared by successful people across every field. It sounds obvious, yet it is often the hardest discipline to practise. Many of us want to pursue ten paths at once. I definitely did. I still do.
But progress rarely comes from spreading ourselves thin. It comes from choosing one meaningful direction and giving it our full attention, even for a short period.
When life feels overwhelming or scattered, try returning to that simple idea.
One thing. Not everything.
Clarity creates movement.
