I thought it would be fun to also look back at my favourite YouTube channels of 2024, those channels that have captured my imagination and entertained me the most.
1. Machine Head – Electric Happy Hour
Friday night’s, Rob and Jared from Machine Head stream live jams from their studio/rehearsal space.
2. Isobel Paige
Isobel Paige lives in the mountains in Washington and her videos are among the most beautiful and well planned that I have ever seen. There is a gentleness, a deep humanity and a simplicity to them that I find so relaxing and life-giving.
3. Storror
Storror is a parkour group from the south of England. Their videos are fun, interesting, challenging and the boys are just the loveliest. Go check out Max and Benj Cave, Drew Taylor, Toby Segar, Callum and Sacha Powell, and Josh Burnett-Blake.
4. Kalle Flodin
Kalle Flodin lives in northern Sweden in a wooden cabin with his girlfriend and son. Again, there is a gentleness and simplicity that I love about Kalle’s videos.
5. Ruth Aisling
Ruth is a lovely Scottish woman who takes her converted Royal Mail van mobile home around remote parts of Scotland and introduces us to some wonderful sights and sounds. Ruth’s videos are friendly, honest and wonderfully gentle … what a lovely way to spend half an hour.
6. Ghost Town Living
In March 2020 (just before the first Covid lockdown), Brent Underwood moved to the abandoned mining town of Cerro Gordo. Once California’s largest silver mines, it has lain abandoned for years. But now Brent is living there full time and slowly restoring it, while also exploring the mines, learning how to extract silver from the rocks and travelling around the area piecing together bits of history.
7. Nikki Delventhal
For three years, former Jets cheerleader Nikki Delventhal lived in a Toyota Prius and travelled across the US in search of adventure. She’s now upgraded to a custom-built van and acquired a couple of dogs (Camper and RV), but her adventures continue. And with her videos you too can join her on her wild ride.
8. Steve Wallis
Growing up in Scotland, there are things I take for granted. Like, it’s not illegal to camp on a roundabout… probably. It turns out that it is in Canada, but that doesn’t stop professional stealth camper Steve Wallis from doing it and sharing his experiences on his YouTube channel. What a lovely guy, too, a fabulous ambassador for Canada.
9. Rob Words
Rob mades videos about words. The origins of words, unusual words, obscure words, and ordinary every day words that you and I speak. He also co-hosts a podcast called Words Unravelled with Jess Zafarris. Go take a listen!
10. Rob Scallon
Our third Rob in this list plays guitar for the internet. Each year he and his friend Andrew Huang make an album in a day. It’s fun, creative and often very silly, I love it!
11. Itchy Boots
Noraly Schoenmaker left Australia in late 2018 after living and working there for a few years. Inspired to explore the world on two wheels, she bought a Royal Enfield Himalayan motorcycle in India and began her solo adventure, travelling through multiple countries in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. This trip marked the beginning of her career as a full-time motorcycle adventurer and content creator. She’s now on season 8 of her adventures.
12. The Outdoor Boys
Luke used to be a lawyer. When he’s not with his wife and kids, he now he spends his time making videos on YouTube of his adventures surviving the wilds of Alaska.
