For the last few months, I’ve been rewriting a plugin that wrote nine years ago to customise the Divi Projects custom post type.
I got the good news today that my new plugin, Rename Divi Projects, has been accepted to sell on the official Divi Marketplace.
It is available for USD $11 for use on unlimited websites.
Divi theme
Divi by Elegant Themes is one of the world’s most popular visual builder themes for WordPress.
A few years ago, Elegant Themes created the Divi Marketplace to allow Divi users to find good quality, third-party child themes, extensions and layouts.
My new plugin extends the original theme’s functionality.
Projects
The Divi theme uses the standard WordPress posts and pages, but it also adds a third post type called Projects.
Projects are used to display a portfolio of work on a website.
But that got me thinking, what if you wanted to use these portfolio modules to showcase holiday letting properties, or advertise books you have written, or you are in a band and want to display the albums you have released. It doesn’t make much sense semantically to list these as ‘projects’.
Wouldn’t it be great if you could rename the Project post type URL from ‘project’ to ‘property’ or ‘book’ or ‘album’ or anything you like, while keeping the functionality of the three Divi portfolio modules:

Once installed, you will find the Rename Divi Projects options screen at
Settings > Rename Divi Projects
The screen looks like this:
One of my favourite features is the dropdown list of Dashicons where you can easily select a menu icon.
I used the Select2 JavaScript library to extend the dropdown functionality to preview every Dashicon available.
