Super Bowl LIV

I stayed up last night until just after 03:00 to watch the Super Bowl LIVe (see what I did there?) between the Kansas City Chiefs vs San Francisco 49ers.

Going into the fourth quarter the 49ers were ahead, 10–20. They had the momentum, I began to relax. Maybe they had it in the bag. But then the Chiefs came back and from about six minutes to go they scored three touchdowns back-to-back.

I switched off the TV, climbed the stairs and watched the last few minutes of disaster in bed on my phone, feeling quite glum—I had so wanted the 49ers to win.

But I’m not entirely disheartened. To have gone from a 4–12 season last year to an NFC championship win this year is a remarkable turnaround. And what a team! Bosa, Bourne, Coleman, Garoppolo, Gould, Juszczyk, Mostert, Samuel, Sanders, Warner to name only a few.

Here’s to the lessons learned and the 2020–2021 season. I feel like I’m doing that a lot in life just now.
