28 hour day anyone?

28 hour day

Do you ever find that you don’t have enough time to do what you want? How about this year we all switch over to the 28 hour day?

Under the 28 Hour Day system, the current week would remain at exactly 168 hours. (24×7=168) However, this 168 hour period would be divided into six 28-hour days rather than seven 24-hour days.

Of course, with one fewer day of the week they’ve predictably dropped Monday, so Tuesday becomes the new first day of the week.

A typical 24-hour day, they say, looks like this:

  • 2 hours for morning routine and commuting
  • 8 hours at work
  • 6 hours free
  • 8 hours sleep

While a 28-hour day would look like this:

  • 2 hours for morning routine and commuting
  • 10 hours at work
  • 7 hours free
  • 9 hours sleep

What?! More hours at work and nine hours sleeping? That can’t be healthy for you, surely!

If you were going to have 28 hour days, then I’d I’m sure most folks would prefer this:

  • 2 hours for morning routine and commuting
  • 8 hours at work
  • 12 hours free
  • 8 hours sleep

I’m not sure I’d like that at all. It’s not very Biblical, either. I’m quite happy with our seven day week, with an extra day every four years to catch up.

  1. Nah. I never much liked the idea of the 6 day week, and I think they should have removed Tuesday not Monday. Tuesday always seems to be my busiest day of the week. But if you’ve been watching the recent series of QI (or was it a repeat I saw recently?) you’ll know that folk who sleep 9 hours a night live shorter lives than folk who sleep only 4-7 hours per night. Under this plan we’d all sleep longer and hence die younger!
