I’ve just given away our old TIME PC, monitor, printer and scanner on Freecycle that we recovered from my parents-in-law’s garage during the summer.
Freecycle groups match people who have things they want to get rid of with people who can use them. Our goal is to keep usable items out of landfills …
I received quite a few enquiries about it and had to make a decision about who to give it to. I used to always give it to the first person who replied, but then realised that some folks get the email digest at the end of the day, so now I wait about 24 hours before making a decision. That seems more fair, to allow more folks a chance to review what’s being offered.
You’ve got to have a system for making a decision, so this was mine for this item. I ruled out
- ppl that rote ther eml in txt spk
- emals with reelly bad spelllng
- people who emailed me repeatedly
I narrowed it down to two
- Someone whose daughter had just started high school (educational need)
- Someone whose aunt had just started a PC class (educational need)
Since my Mum really loves her laptop, and has got so much joy out of it, I gave it to the aunt. I felt that she would be far less likely to “grow out” of the Windows 98se PC.
I may be wrong, but that’s how I came to my decision.
