Metallica in the studio

Metallica in the studio

Great news! Metallica are back in the studio recording their ninth (original) studio album.

Here’s what it says at, for those of you too lazy to check it out:

Metallica left the comfort of HQ this week to descend upon the greater Los Angeles area to begin recording their 9th original album.

This is the first time they’ve recorded outside of the Bay Area since they spent an eternity at One-On-One Studios recording The Black Album in ’90 and ’91.

The last couple days have been devoted to each band member working out the right sounds, including Lars who remembered to turn on the snare and Kirk who played a solo!

The big, shiny red button was finally pushed today [Wednesday 14 March] – and the wait begins.

I’m excited already …

  1. Having watched (most of) the ‘Some kind of Monster’ film – which was all about the making of a previous album – I would urge you not to start holding your breath on this one… It could take some time.

  2. Seemingly Metallica did all the writing before they went into the studio with producer Rick Rubin.

They’ve started recording now, will take a break for the “Sick of the Studio 07” tour and return to recording in August. Lars was hoping that they could get the album out by the end of 2007, or January 2008 at the latest.

Remember, this is Metallica … not Guns ‘N Roses! And that it’s Rick Rubin producing. Nuff said!
