Quickly, before I go to bed, I thought I’d share with you the rule. The rule is, while watching a film (or if you prefer, a ‘movie’), if anyone in the film says the name of the film you have to cheer. It doesn’t have to be a loud cheer (if you are at the cinema, for example) and if you’d prefer you may simply throw your arms in the air in a celebratory manner. But, the event must be celebrated. That’s just the rule.
This evening Jane and I watched Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) — which really was quite terrible, albeit entertaining — and got a few cheers there, for the “Tomb Raider” bit, it was too much like hard work to cheer every time someone said “Lara Croft”.
Then we watched The Shipping News (2001) — which was quite, quite wonderful — which also scored nicely on the self-referential-mention- of-the-film-title-during-dialog count.
So now you know the film name rule. Get cheering!
Just watched the Shipping News as well – what a gorgeous film!
I use the rule too! Another favourite (firefox) extension is to playing Revel Roulette – assign a different response to each flavour! Remember doing that at Lord of the Rings 1? We had to shout out the name of the character on screen if we tasted coffee!
