This year I’m involved in Powerpoint once again, playing guitar in the worship band. Powerpoint is a Christian youth event which was once-upon-a-time overseen by YFC and now has SU Scotland oversight. (Not sure why Powerpoint doesn’t have a website.)
We had a rehearsal last night which was perhaps the loudest rehearsal that I’ve ever played at. This was the first (and only?) time that this particular line-up has played together:
- Lead Vocals & Lead Acoustic Guitar: Neil Costley
- Lead Electric Guitar & Pure Metal™: Gareth J M Saunders (that’s me)
- Lead Bass Guitar: Mike Arthur
- Lead Keyboards: Tim Cocking
- Lead Drums: Andrew Weir
- Lead Backing Vocals: Soo Ritchie
It took us a couple of hours before we began to gel, but we’re getting there. Tonight will be fun, I have no doubt.
It was weird playing electric guitar again having spent the summer just tinkling on my acoustic guitar and acoustic bass. Electric and acoustic instruments are very different beasts. Something else that I’ve noticed is that each time I play with a new band I end up using different guitar effects. Last year I was quite indie with a warm and mellow mid-overdrive. Last night I was playing through a downloaded Digitech patch called “Slayer”!! They do say that God gave rock’n’roll to you! I’m living proof. And when the rest of the band demanded a fully overdriven, screaming feedback intro to Over all the Earth who was I to argue? (Should that now be Overdrive all the Earth?
I was going to practice this afternoon but ended up restringing, cleaning and tuning the strings on my acoustic and Strat, which took longer than I’d anticipated. And then a quick game of Star Wars Battlefront … hey! I’m still on holiday, you know!
haha!! METAAAAAL!!!

Oops! I appear to have deleted Neil’s comment when I wiped out the spam. I hate spam, hate it, hate it, hate it!! I get so much every blimmen’ day, and sometimes the good messages get wiped out too. Sorry, Neil.

Costly … Costley … Details … shmeatails … spelling fixed now.
Another Tim Cocking playing keys in a Christian band?! Me too! Only I’m over in the States. Interesting to find y’all
That’s great! I’m not sure if our Tim Cocking has seen this. I must remember to email him with this.
Wow this is a nice site. :0) I like the comments even though I don’t 100% agree with all of them. I am a grad student at the University of Sacred Heart in Connecticut. If you don’t mind I will use your blog as a example for my semester project that I am doing on the internet and ecommerce. If you reject the thought send me a quick email
