Is it just me, or are there now an inordinate number of road works springing up all across town; the disruption to traffic these last couple of weeks has been considerable. And we have a postal vote about congestion charges next week. Could these be, in any way, connected, or am I just being cynical?

The Lord’s Prayer
Yesterday I presided at the eucharist at St Salvador’s, and later took communion to two members of the congregation. The gospel reading I used at each service was that set for Tuesday of the first week of Lent (for that is what it was): Matthew 6: 7-15, which includes Jesus teaching his disciples what we now know as The Lord’s Prayer.
It’s a very familiar prayer. One that can too easily trip off the tongue without thinking about it. When I got home I checked it out in The Message version of the Bible:
Our Father in heaven,
Reveal who you are.
Set the world right;
Do what’s best–
as above, so below.
Keep us alive with three square meals.
Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others.
Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil.
You’re in charge!
You can do anything you want!
You’re ablaze in beauty!
Yes. Yes. Yes.
(Matthew 6: 9-13)
I use e-Sword Bible software for Windows, which includes a full version of The Message.
