PsiWin ManagerWhat is PsiWin 1.1?

PsiWin 1.1 is a 16-bit Windows application (that also runs under 32-bit versions of Windows, such as Windows XP) that allows you to connect your Psion SIBO machine to a PC via a serial port and RS-232 cable, to backup data, convert files and exchange information.

Note that PsiWin 1.1 is only for the following Psion machines:

  • Psion Series 3
  • Psion Series 3a
  • Psion Series 3c
  • Psion Series 3mx
  • Psion Siena
  • Psion WorkAbout
  • Psion WorkAbout MX

You can also use PsiWin 2.3.3 with these machines, although PsiWin 2.3.3 does not have the Psion Database application. PsiWin 1.1 and 2.3.3 can be installed at the same time but not used at the same time.

PsiWin 1.1. will not work with any EPOC machine (e.g. Psion Series 5mx).

PsiWin 1.1 also offers limited synchronization with certain packages under Windows 3.1 (see 'Convertion Library' below for more details).

Download PsiWin 1.1

PsiWinYou can download the Year 2000 compliant/upgrade version of PsiWin 1.1 from this website.

My downloads page now includes PsiWin 1.1 (Y2K-compliant) in English, Dutch, French, German and Italian.

Installation instructions

  1. Download the PsiWin 1.1 package you require.

  2. Create a temporary folder for the installation files, such as C:\PSIWIN.

  3. Using an application such as WinZip unzip the contents into the temporary folder you just created, e.g. C:\PSIWIN.

  4. Open the folder and double-click the file called SETUP.EXE. If your installation of Windows doesn't show file extensions then you'll notice that there are 2 files called SETUP, use the one that has an icon of a Psion with a PC and three discs and not the one with the globe and arrow.

  5. Follow the onscreen instructions to install PsiWin 1.1. I recommend that you install it somewhere simple, e.g. C:\PSIWIN. I personally install all my 16-bit applications into C:\PROGFILE\<APP>, e.g. C:\PROGFILE\PSIWIN\.

Installation notes

  • This is a full-version of PsiWin 1.1, which is Year 2000 Compliant. 'Upgrade' refers to this version being Y2K complaint.

  • You do not need a previous version of PsiWin 1.1 for this to work.

  • You do not need to uninstall or remove a previous installation of PsiWin 1.1 before installing this upgrade. This upgrade will overwrite the installed version of PsiWin 1.1, but not the user files.

  • After extracting the files, run the 'setup.exe' program found in the directory 'disk1'. Follow the on screen instructions in the setup program, making sure that you install this upgrade to the same directory as the version of PsiWin 1.1 already installed.

Psion Manager

Psion ManagerPsion Manager is similar to Windows 3.1x File Manager. It allows you to drag and drop files between your Psion and PC - PsiWin automatically converts them to the right format, unless you hold down the Ctrl key when Psion Manager will simply copy the files.

Psion Agenda
