============================================ Psion SIBO Emulators IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THIS SOFTWARE ============================================ This file refers to the Psion SIBO emulators for the Psion Series 3a, Psion Siena and Psion WorkAbout, which run under MS-DOS. === INSTALLATION === The installation files have been created using WinZip under Windows, and have been designed to be run under Windows. 1. Double-click the SETUP.EXE file 2. The WinZip Self-Extractor program will open asking for a folder to unzip to 3. The default value is C:\ -- I recommend that you keep this value unless you know how to edit BAT files and change the SUBST commands for the location that you unzip the files (see below for details) 4. Click the Unzip button 5. The files will be unzipped to C:\ creating a new directory C:\PSIEMUL where necessary 6. Click the OK button 7. Click the CLOSE button on the WinZip Self-Extractor program to close it === RUN FROM MS-DOS ONLY === The Psion SIBO Emulators themselves cannot run under Windows (either in Windows itself or an MS-DOS Command Prompt from within Windows). The Psion SIBO Emulators MUST be run from MS-DOS. To restart your PC in MS-DOS mode from MS Windows 95, 98 or 98se do one of the following: METHOD 1 1. Click Start | Shut Down... 2. From the dialog box select 'Restart in MS-DOS mode' and click OK 3. The PC will close down Windows and restart in MS-DOS mode METHOD 2 ** RECOMMENDED ** 1. Click Start | Shut Down... 2. From the dialog box select 'Restart' and click OK 3. The PC will close down Windows and restart. After the Power-On Startup Test (POST test) the PC will beep. Press the F8 key on your keyboard -- you may have to repeatedly press it. 4. A startup menu will appear. Select option 5: Command Prompt Only 5. The PC will now start in MS-DOS with a minimum of drivers installed === RUNNING THE EMULATORS == If you have unzipped the files to the default locations you can use the BATCH file in the root C:\ directory to set up the SUBSTituted drives required by the emulator and run the emulator itself. To run the following emulators type the following from the command prompt: Series 3a C:\S3A Siena C:\SIENA WorkAbout C:\WKABOUT === A NOTE ABOUT 'SUBST' === The Psion SIBO machines themselves use 3 drives: The internal drive M:, plus two optional SSD drives A: and B: The emulator is no different. So you need to use the MS-DOS command 'SUBST' to SUBSTitute drives or folders on your PC for use by the emulator. -- M DRIVE -- For example, if the Series 3a emulator files are saved to the path C:\PSIEMUL\S3A you would need to tell MS-DOS to regard that folder as drive M:, which is the default internal Psion drive. The MS-DOS command would therefore be SUBST M: D:\PSIEMUL\S3A The M: drive MUST be the directory that the emulator files are stored in. -- A and B DRIVES -- The A: and B: drives can actually point to ANY other directory on your computer, so long as the path name given is in MS-DOS 8.3 format, e.g the Windows 98 'My Documents' folder would have to be written as 'MYDOCU~1'. This can be useful for pointing the emulator to a folder containing Psion SIBO software files, or a Psion PsiWin 1.1 backup. === EDITING BATCH FILES === To edit the BAT files simply open it in your favourite text editor, e.g. Notepad. === MORE INFORMATION === There is a readme.txt file inside the installation folder which gives more information from Psion about how to run and use the Emulators. ============================================ Downloaded from http://www.garethjmsaunders.co.uk/psion/ ============================================
