Version 3.0 is now available as an Alpha release.

I use this great utility to sync files between my HTML folder in My Documents and my Personal Web Server. "qFileSync can be used to syncronize files between two directories... on a network, for example, or between a floppy and a hard drive. There is a readme.html that comes with it that explains all the options."

Back-up: to back-up your synchronization profiles use Regedit to export

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\
VB and VBA Program Settings\
qFileSync

to a .reg file.

(Version 3.x uses an .ini file to store profiles.)

Restore: to restore your synchronization profiles simply double-click the .reg file to merge the data into the registry.

While Notepad is small, simple and very useful it hasn't been updated remarkably since Windows 3.1x. It's GUI is awful. An alternative is Metapad which is small, fast and completely free! It includes a lot of great features.

A Freeware utility which allows you to print the contents of a directory. Oddly Microsoft has never included it in any distribution of Windows(r). The closest it allows is to list a directory in a DOS window and redirect the output to a file e.g. "DIR C:\WINDOWS >LIST.TXT" — the downside is that, of course, MS-DOS doesn't support long filenames, so you get lists of files ending in tilde (~) plus a number, e.g. "Rules for Mah Jong.txt" becomes "RULESF~1.TXT".

Another freeware application which Microsoft should have incorporated into Windows(r). It calculates the size of a directory, plus all its subdirectories. Options include: Sort by size, Soft by name, show bytes used, show bytes allocated, show percentage of total, etc.
