These tips and fixes have worked on my PC, but they are not guaranteed
to work on yours. I've placed them here because I also run this website
on my home Personal Web Server.

Icons / Cursors

Repair Audio CD icons
This will restore your Audio CD icon to the default one. Download
it, and double-click it to merge it into your registry.

Repair Cursor Icons
This will restore your cursor icons to the default ones. Download
it, and double-click it to merge it into your registry.

Increase Icon Cache
This will add new options to the Explorer > Tools | Folder Options...
| View tab giving greater control over the size of the Icon Cache.
Download it, and double-click it to merge it into your registry.

Repair Icon Previews
This will restore icon previews, if icons fail to show their images.

This will repair the Thumbnail view in Explorer, if it gets corrupted.

Repair Image Preview
Sometimes an installation of a graphics application will interfere
with the default image preview in Explorer (View as Web page). This
cunning VBScript file will fix it.

|
Change IE Title
This VBScript routine by Doug Knox allows you to customize the Internet
Explorer title, or returns it to the default if your ISP has rudely
changed it without your authorization. Download it, and double-click
it to run the utilitiy.

Client for MS Networks logon
This tweak may allow TweakUI log on to the MS Network if you have
problems due to the TweakUI routine starting before the Network
logon. Download it, and read the readme file before using it.

Customize 'My Pictures' folder
location
This will point the My Pictures default to 'G:\' -- you can edit
this file to your preference, simply change G:\\ to your location
of choice (make sure all back-slashes are doubled.) Download it,
and double-click it to merge it into your registry.

Fix Start Menu Right-click
Another Doug Knox routine in VBScript. This one fixes any problems
with your Start Menu not allowing you to right-click on it. Download
it, and double-click it to run the utilitiy.

Repair W98 Send To.. PowerToy
bug
There is a bug in the Send To PowerToy when run under Windows 98.
This file fixes it. Download it, and double-click it to merge it
into your registry.

Psion - PsiWin 2.3.x Fix
|
|
|
Allow Psion SIBO machine
(Siena, Series 3 Classic, Series 3a, Series 3c/3mx) to use PsiWin
2.3.x
Some versions of PsiWin 2.x will not allow 16-bit (SIBO) machines
to connect. This file tells you how you can edit the Registry to
make sure it works.

Tweak
UI is an unsupported tool from Microsoft that gives you some control
over the Windows User Interface (UI). It is very useful indeed.
PCForrest used to have the best site on TweakUI, but it seems to have
disappeared off the face of the internet. Find it at www.archive.org
and enter 'www.pcforrest.co.uk' or 'www.pcforrest.freeserve.co.uk'
X-Setup gives more control over the UI (and more) and is
recommended for Advanced Users only. You can also develop your own tweaks
and share them with the X-Setup community.
