======================================= W i n d o w s 9 x B l u e S c r e e n o f D e a t h ======================================= Revised January 26, 2001 Are you tired of the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH? Do you want to get rid of them forever? Thousands of newsgroup posts appear every day complaining about Windows errors which create the frustrating and demoralizing BSOD ("Blue Screen of Death"). Occasionally, the cause can be tracked and resolved; but sometimes (especially on Windows 95) there just isn't any solution. Millions of Windows users have resigned themselves to facing these recurrent blue screens the rest of their computing lives. But no more! We have the solution! It only requires a simple Windows configuration modification, and you will never see a "Blue Screen of Death" again! Just change its color! You no longer have to restimulate your post-BSOD stress disorder with another single BSOD ever, if you just change the color of the error screen! Instead, you can have a Red Screen of Death (RSOD), a Green Screen of Death (GSOD), or even an elegant Magenta Screen of Death (MSOD) -- or back to BLUE Here's how! 1. Launch SYSEDIT. 2. Select the file SYSTEM.INI. 3. Find the [386Enh] section of that file and add the following two lines: MessageTextColor= MessageBackColor= where is in the range 0-15 (in Hex) for text color and 0-7 for background color. The default is a foreground color of 15 (F, or white) on a background of 1 (blue, of course). The other numbers are as follows: 0 - Black 1 - Blue 2 - Green 3 - Cyan 4 - Red 5 - Magenta 6 - Yellow/Brown 7 - White 8 - Gray 9 - Bright Blue A - Bright Green B - Bright Cyan C - Bright Red D - Bright Magenta E - Bright Yellow F - Bright White CREDIT DEPARTMENT: You can blame MS-MVP Ron Martell for this delightful discovery!
