============================= W i n d o w s 9 8 / 9 8 S E Disable Start-up Logo ============================= Summary: How can I disable the Startup logo? Problem: "I have heard that the startup logo is embedded within a file that is not editable. I ask how can I disable it? I rename the logo.sys, and even delete it, but it still shows. Is this true that I cannot disable it without other program like TweakUI? Solution 1: Yeah, Tweak UI, Boot tab will do it. Remove the mark from display the splash screen. Solution 2: You *can* disable it with what you already have on your computer. Do the following: 1. Open Windows Explorer 2. In the root folder, locate the MSDOS.SYS file (if you can't see it, change your view settings so you can see all files and folders) 3. Right-click on the file; select 'Properties' 4. Remove the "read only" check mark; hit OK 5. Hold down the key and right-click on the file; select "Open with" 6. Select Notepad from the list, make sure "Always use this program...." is not checked; hit OK 7. Look for the line that reads LOGO=1; change it to read LOGO=0 8. If you do not see this entry, then add it to the bottom of the file 9. Save and close the file 10. Reset the "read only" attribute 11. Restart the computer, no Windows start up screen 12. By the way, doing this is the same thing TweakUI does. Source: Brian (Microsoft MVP -- DTS) windows gen_discussion newsgroup
