Make sure that file and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks is part of your network configuration by clicking the Network icon in the Control Panel. Click the File and Printer Sharing button, and make sure that you have enabled sharing by marking one or both of the File and Print Sharing check boxes. 2. Highlight File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks in the Network dialog box, and click the Properties button. Set Browse Master to Enable, and LM Announce to Yes. 3. If you are using the IPX/SPX protocol, highlight that network component in the Network dialog box, click Properties, click the Advanced ' click Frame, and be sure that the frame type value is set to the frame type that is used on your network. If you are communicating with WFWG 3.11 computers, you may want to set it to 802.3, for example. 4. Click the Identification tab in the Network dialog box, and carefully check your computer name to make sure that it is unique. Also verify that the workgroup name is the same as the workgroup name for the other computers in your workgroup. 5. Make sure that you are actually sharing something. Just because you've enabled the ability to share, doesn't mean you have. Right-click a folder or drive icon in your Explorer, and click Sharing. 6. Check your network card setup in the Device Manager. There may be an unrecognized conflict between your network card and I/O port COM 2. Disable COM 2 to check this out. You can change the resources use by the network card later, if you do indeed have a conflict. You can troubleshoot your network problems by clicking Start, Help, Troubleshooting, Windows 98 Troubleshooters, Networking.
