These are programs that allows you to add, delete, rename and move files about in your webspace. This page instructs you on: Downloading, installing and using Terrapin FTP Downloading installing and using CuteFTP. PLEASE NOTE: Both of these programs are shareware products. You will be allowed a limited evaluation period after which the products will have limited function. * * * * * T E R R A P I N * * * * * Downloading Terrapin FTP: Terrapin FTP can be downloaded from http://www.tpin.com NOTE: Terrapin FTP is only available forWindows 95,98 and NT machines. 1. After you click the link select "Save this program to disk" and then click on OK. 2. The "Save As" window allows you to specify where on your hard drive you save the file, we recommend downloading to a temporary directory. 3. Once you have selected the location you wish to save the file to, click on Save and the program will now begin downloading. 4. It should take around 8-12 minutes depending on the speed of your connection. Once it has finished downloading you are ready to install it. Installing Terrapin FTP: 1. Click Start, Find, then Files and Folders. 2. Within "Named" enter tpinft23.exe. 3. From the drop down menu "Look in" select the hard disk drive that you downloaded Terrapin FTP to. Normally C:\ 4. Click Find Now. 5. The file, tpinft23.exe, will be displayed within the find window. Double-click this file to run the set up wizard. Then follow the onscreen instructions. Setting up Terrapin FTP to allow file transfers: 1. Click Start, Programs, then Terrapin FTP. 2. Click Server then New Connection. 3. In the Server Address box enter www., e.g. www.fredbloggs.co.uk 4. In the User Name box enter your dial-up username, e.g. fred@freenetname.co.uk 5. In the Password box enter your dial-up password, e.g. ********* ;-) 6. Click the Connect button. 7. Terrapin FTP will connect to your web space and display the directories and files on your webspace in the same way as Windows Explorer. Terrapin FTP will also display the files and directories on your hard-drive. Uploading Files: To upload files to your webspace, highlight the desired file(s) and drag them to the required destination directory. For example, in Local Computer, open the folder where you have stored your html files on your hard-drive and highlight your index.html, then drag it to the public_html directory in FTP Site. Note: All web pages and images should be uploaded to the public_html directory and the first page of your web site should be called either index.html or index.htm Once you have finished uploading your web pages you can save the Site Map. Terrapin FTP will automatically prompt you to save changes to the Site Map every time you exit the program. To maintain your site in future all you will need to do is open the Site Map by selecting Open from the Server menu, then select the server you want to connect to. * * * * * C U T E F T P * * * * * Downloading CuteFTP: 1. CuteFTP can be downloaded from http://www.cuteftp.com/download/download.html NOTE: CuteFTP is only available for Windows 95,98 and NT4 machines. 2. Select the CuteFTP 3.5 for Win95/98/NT 4. 32 bit (English) version of CuteFTP, enter your e-mail address in the "e-mail (required)" box and click the Download Now button. 3. After a few moments, the download box will automatically appear. Select "Save this program to disk" and then click on OK. 4. The "Save As" window allows you to specify where on your hard drive you save the file, we recommend downloading to a temporary directory. 5. Once you have selected the location you wish to save the file to, click on Save and the program will now begin downloading. 6. Setting up CuteFTP to allow file transfers: 1. Click Start, Programs, then CuteFTP. 2. When CuteFTP opens it should display the "Site Manager Window". If not, click File and Site Manager. 3. Click Cute FTP sites, then click Add. 4. Within "Site Label" enter [-BRAND-] Webspace. 5. Within "Host Address" www. 6. Within "Userid" enter your dial-up username. 7. Within "Password" enter your dial-up password. 8. From "Login Type" select Normal. 9. From "Transfer Type" select Auto Detect. 10. Within "Initial Remote Directory" enter public_html. 11. Within "Initial Local Directory" enter the path on your local machine where your HTML files are located, e.g. C:\My_webspace\HTMLfiles\ Note: If you are unsure of you local path leave "Initial Local Directory" blank. 12.
